THE NIGHT QUEEN IN ITS PRISTINE AND DIVINE FORM!
The scientific name for this flower is Epiphyllum oxypetalum and it is often mistaken for the rarest of rare flower, the Brahma Kamal, the king of Himalayan flower, classified and named as Saussurea obvallata, which supposedly blooms once in 14 years in the Himalayan mountains.
I would now like to share why I am writing about this experience today, is it because I have seen it blooming in my garden for the first time?
Well, you will be surprised to know that it is not so!
It has blossomed in my garden for the fourth time and the first time it had bloomed I had clicked a few snaps by keeping awake till midnight, just out of curiosity due to the few stories that I had heard from my neighbours about it's auspiciousness and uniqueness.Unfortunately those photographs got deleted and I decided to do it again, when a few days back five buds appeared.I also decided to write about it hence I started searching about it on google.
I was really amazed to find that so many articles had been published about it, I also found that even the newspapers had reported about this unique, divine and mystical bloom. Most of the people had shared about it's auspicious nature and that is why many of them called it Brahma kamal. I shall not mention about any of the legends associated with this flower as you can read about it in several blogs. What I wish to share with you is that almost everybody claimed that it was auspicious, blossomed only 5 to 7 years after having been planted and its blooming indicated some divine blessings being showered on you.
Well this really made me realize how fortunate and blessed I was to have this plant in my garden and to have seen it blossom so often. And above all,to have the inclination to share this with others through this article.
In addition to this,I wish to share 'how and when' I acquired this plant because now I really find it all very intriguing and mysterious.
I acquired this plant about three and a half years back, just in the form of a leaf( the plant springs forth from a leaf, does not have a distinct stem and even the flowers appear from the edges of the leaf,so you see it has so many intriguing features.) The most surprising thing is,that my auspicious little plant blossomed in the very first year.On that particular day, I was awake till nearly 2 am as the flower blossoms at night and by morning it closes and becomes limp.So if you miss watching it bloom at night, as I did once, you would be disappointed in the morning.
I would like to share here that in the three and a half years that it has grown in my garden,it has blossomed four times! Usually many buds appear but only few mature and reach full bloom stage.Like for instance, this time there were five buds initially but only two of them matured and blossomed in about a span of about 14 days.
Unlike many others who claim that it blossoms around evening and closes within a few hours, each time the flowers blossomed just like they did today, after 10 pm and remained in full bloom till very late in the night.Today I saw the flowers opening up around 9 pm and they were in full bloom by 12 am.Now it is 2 am and the flowers are still wide open and I can see them from where I am typing this article. Have a look at the picture I have just clicked:

As most of you will agree, I am really fortunate to have this plant, to have it grow in such a short span,to have seen it blossom so many times,to have the desire to find out more about it and finally realize my good fortune about it!
This inspired me to share my experiences with you through this blog.I hope these pictures and information delight you and shower divine blessings on you and all others who read it,just as it has done for me and has been claimed to do so by so many others.
Now get ready for a divine visual treat!
