An Extraordinarily Gratifying Holiday Experience

We were fortunate enough to chance upon discovering this holiday resort- 'a village eco resort' to be more precise and the experience was so extraordinary that I felt the need to write about it. The idea is to spread word and create awareness about this 'lesser known vacation spot' that  is a 'must visit for all' and needs to be part of each traveller's bucket list
An ideal weekend resort that is sure to rejuvenate and refresh you like never before!

Name: Hoysala Village Resort, Hassan, a luxury Eco Resort

Some of the special features that set this beautiful resort apart from other resorts visited so far:

# Total Green Environment, a delight for nature lovers
# Great food to tickle your palate
# Keeping traditions alive to create a positive aura
# Live Singing
# A Guided Tour of the Property
# Special Attractions

Warm Reception

Right from the time you enter the gate of the resort, get down from the car and reach the reception area,  you are greeted with warm smiles, folded hands of the staff, exotic blooms and lush greenery. The hand wash with warm water poured out of well polished copper and brass vessels, the traditional intricate wooden architecture from Kerala, the Nataraj amidst traditional brass lamps and the artwork of dancing figures on the ceiling that you catch sight of at the reception, transport you to an 'era gone by' creating a very positive aura.

Comfy and Cosy Cottages

As you tread the winding pathways lined with rows of lush greenery on either side, leading to the cottage assigned for you, you actually feel the place growing on you. As soon as you enter the cottage, the sheer spaciousness and grandness created by the wooden architecture, specially the intricately carved ceiling in rich polished wood, antique furniture, traditional decor enamour you. Coupled with this, the detailing of the cottage by the courteous staff to familiarise you with your 'home for the weekend' is sure to completely floor you, promising that your stay is going to be the most cosy and comfortable one.

Total Green Environment, a delight for nature lovers

Once you soak in the aesthetic beauty of the room, and peep out of the huge glass windows you are greeted with an expanse of a total green environment that promises serenity  and tranquility. When you step out and explore the surroundings you are delighted to witness well manicured lawns, a huge variety of trees with their scientific and common names displayed, exotic varieties of blooms, a complete visual delight for all nature lovers. This green paradise takes a divine look with the onslaught of the monsoons.

Total Green Environment

Great food to tickle your palate

A great vacation needs the accompaniment of great food to make it perfect. The Head Chef, Dinesh and his efficient team both in the kitchen and the ones serving in the restaurant are committed to serve delicious food that is heathy and nutritious to the guests with immense love. In order to ensure the best quality of the food  being served, the resort procures all it spices from its very own spice garden, and its organic vegetables too. To top it up the meals are cooked in pure ghee which is obtained from their own farm where they house ample number of cows to take care of their kitchen requirement.

The Restaurant

Keeping traditions alive to create a positive aura

Right from the moment you enter the resort to the time you spend there you sense very positive vibes. This is largely due to the fact that the staff has been trained to keep traditions alive through  daily rituals such as morning prayers in the reception area,  cow worship of the in house cow aptly named Lakshmi, offering the first few food items (bhog) prepared in the kitchen as naivedya (offering)to her, and tree worship every single day. The whole place reverberates with positive energy in the early morning hours creating an environment of total peace which lasts throughout the day. Guests are free to take part in these morning rituals.

Tree Worshipping

Live Singing

All through the day there is live singing by Viswenath, who plays the keyboard with ease along with singing despite being blind. Starting with bhajans in the morning to singing popular numbers all through the day or simply playing melodious tunes, a very musical environment is created that is soothing for the nerves.

A Guided Tour of the Property

Another attraction for the guest is a guided tour of the place by the staff, showing you the lake, the gardens around with several unique trees such as Sandalwood tree, Rudraksha tree and many more varieties,  exotic blooms of various hues within the property. So one gets the chance to visit and view the variety of cottages/villas  available- regular, premium, Jacuzzi villas and above all the regal  Malnad Palace with its 10 royal suites, regal dining and living rooms, befitting royalty, ideal for a destination wedding. Even if any of these options are not within the budget of a guest, the pleasure of visiting these areas with an interesting commentary by a senior staff adds to the pleasant memories of this resort that you carry along with you.

Malnad Palace

Special Attractions

There are several other attractions that make this resort stand apart and make it the perfect choice for an ideal vacation. the staff is willing to take you for a 'walk through the village' which is a refreshing change for the guests living in fast-paced lives in metros and big cities.  Also there are several 'poolside activities' available on request for a nominal price, such as painting, tattoo making, flower making, henna to name just a few. Needless to say that these activities are a big hit with all kids holidaying in the resort. there is a well decorated traditional bullock cart kept at the entrance and you could avail of the cart ride at a reasonable price.

Courteous Staff

The staff at the resort is very well trained and extremely courteous. Wherever you go you are greeted with warm smiles and namastes, the traditional Indian greeting. You are sure to have pleasant encounters such as a lady at the gate surprising you by asking you if you have had your meal or a dining area staff asking you if you have visited  nearby locations or just random enquiries from the staff asking you if you are having a good time. All of this certainly makes one feel special and that of 'being at home.'  In fact there is a culture of warmth and courtesy that percolates down from the owner, Mr Ravindra Alva, himself, who regularly visits the place and makes it a point to circulate among the guests and enquire about their comfortable stay.
Another very special feature is that the staff is always extending themselves beyond their assigned duties, for instance the lady at the reception would rush to the dining hall to serve the guests when crowd is huge, a staff member at the gate would volunteer to sing and entertain, another staff member would be willing to take you around or guide you. It is like one big extended family striving to be gracious hosts.
Though majority of the staff there is polite and courteous, few people who need a special mention are Mr. John Kennedy, Ms. Raji, Ms. Manjula, Mr Shetty, who are not just committed to their duties but are willing to extend themselves.

To sum up the entire experience in a nut shell, it was an extremely pleasant and enjoyable one, a complete tryst with nature, refreshing and rejuvenating enough to carry along with us very pleasant memories of our stay at the place. We not only strongly recommend visiting this place to others but wish to visit the place again and again.

My Precious Brahmakamal...a visual delight

All those who have a Brahamakamal plant at home, would know what it is to wait for that once in a year occasion when the divine blooms usher in  infinite glory, divine glow, ethereal beauty and endless blessings each time they bloom in your garden, usually at midnight!
This year I witnessed more than 18 buds growing on my plant, between mid-July to early September, some reaching full maturity (the bud invariably takes 10 to 15 days to grow and reach full bloom stage and the flower blooms just for few hours between 9 pm to 4 am, blossoming to its full glory at midnight)..
BUT ALAS, monkeys from the nearby National Park, who are regular visitors to our building, mercilessly tore away the buds , one by one, some of them just few hours before blossoming, filling me with  disillusionment and disappointment and breaking my heart each time...
I was reminded of the story...Try, Try, Try again...in which an ant, trying to climb a wall, kept on falling again and again, finally succeeding after failing 17 times!
WHAT A COINCIDENCE... I too had to wait for seventeen buds to be cruelly snatched away by the monkeys( who did not know what a divine beauty they were destroying) till finally this one bloomed in my garden today and filled my heart and home with its divine glow and glory....
Gratitude!!!

Nature does teach us profound lessons through  its unique ways!

"Divine blessings do not come to you without the trials and tribulations!"

Now for the Visual Treat:

The bud ready to bloom...

Few buds destroyed by the monkeys...

Countdown to midnight...

Aging gracefully!

Well, I neither belong to the category of 'men and women overly obsessed with looks' nor have  experienced the needle and knife ( or would ever think of doing so), sadly used by millions, the world over today, as a desperate measure to look forever young and defy nature. I only keep hearing and reading about it so often and recently when I read a 'tail piece' in the Mumbai Mirror mentioning two top celebrities competing with each other to look younger and more glamorous with the result that they wore barbie doll expressions and could not move their eyebrows, I was appalled and aghast.

This reminded me of a beautiful movie, I had seen ages back, titled, 'Fedora'. This movie was years ahead of its time and really touched my heart and soul It was about an actress who was appreciated by millions of people across the globe, for her beauty and glamour. Now this woman was completely in love with herself and her own biggest admirer. Remember Snow white's legendary step mother's famous line 'Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of all? Well, it so happened that to maintain her youthful looks she was constantly experimenting with potions specially prepared by the beauty experts she was depending upon, with good results for a long time until on one ill-fated day, her face reacted and rejected  a particular potion meant to make her look even fairer and younger( fair and lovely?) and she developed wrinkles and aged overnight.

But that was not the end to this horrific tale, for it had another ugly twist...well she forced her equally beautiful young  daughter to don a mask of her face, specially created by her beauty experts. So from that day her daughter lived her life, looked like her, acted like her, gave interviews and enacted in movies under the guise of Fedora whereas she continued to live in the shadows unable to accept the reality and face the truth. This continued for a long time till her daughter could not endure the stress of undergoing an identity crisis and hence exposed her mother. And Fedora killed herself for the fear of facing the world with her 'once beautiful face turned ugly for the want of looking eternally young and beautiful'.

Why cannot we accept ourselves as we are? Why cannot we accept and enjoy the changes that happen to us naturally, as we age? Why cannot we simply age gracefully? Now, that certainly does not mean that we stop caring for ourselves. We should continue to take care of ourselves through a healthy diet, regular exercise, keep ourselves up and about and resort to regular beauty care, preferably home remedies. But what we need to avoid is interfering with nature and resorting to gruesome means such as the needle and the knife to remain, 'forever young'. Every living creature has to go through the eternal  life cycle of 'being born', 'growth and development', 'maturity', 'procreation' and ultimately 'death'. As human beings we have to accept the roles of being a child, youth, parent, grand parent and even a great grand parent if we are lucky...each of these roles and phases bring their own pains and pleasures that we need to accept gracefully, the most inevitable one of them being 'ageing', the inevitable truth!
Think about it 'consciously and carefully' and accept the sagging body, wrinkles, crinkles, grey hair and all other changes that are a natural course of our journey of and  through life. And believe me if you do it with total acceptance, grace and a smile you would still look beautiful enough to make people compliment you, minus the agony of the needle and knife!

I would like to end it with this short poem:

When your beauty and youthful looks begin to desert you,
Why panic and fuss over it and give it importance, undue?

Why not accept it naturally and be at peace with yourself,
Rather than unnecessarily tormenting and torturing yourself?

Rather than resorting to the needle and knife or using  botox,
Try adopting natural ways of exercise, healthy diet and detox.

Substitute your anxieties about 'ageing and losing your youth',
With that of, accepting it as naturally as any other eternal truth.

Every stage of life unfolds more beauty that eyes may behold,
Appreciate and accept gracefully,' all that comes, with growing old'.

Instead of resorting to desperate measures of the 'needle and knife',
Let us 'gracefully and graciously' accept this stark reality of life!'

There is nothing more beautiful than a face lined with wrinkles,
Adorned with a silver crowning glory and eyes lined with crinkles.

A person's face beams and shines with wisdom acquired over the years,
So just smile, and keep growing in beauty and grace without any fears.

A LETTER FROM AMITABH BACHCHAN ...READ ON TO KNOW MORE...

Thank you, Amitabh Bachchan, Sir

for this

'Most Awaited, Exciting and Precious Review'

of my debut book, 'Heartfelt Poems' that arrived today and

literally, 'Made My Day!

I am truly honoured, Sir, to receive this beautiful and precious letter from you today, making this day of my life, 'my most memorable day ever!'

Now I know why you have millions of fans, the world over...you are a true celebrity...and know how to win hearts...

It is unbelievable, how you have spared precious moments from your extremely busy schedule, to send this letter to me in response to my book (and accompanying letter),

to a person  completely unknown to you, that too,

with my name and your signature in ink on the letter...

I have no words to describe my feelings on receipt of this precious gift from you!

It is incredible, yet true, that where so many others known to me, rather well, failed to take out time from their 'not so busy schedules', to write reviews...giving some genuine and some lame excuses,

Your Review came as 'A Live Example of A genuine Act of Encouragement and Motivation',

 for a debut author'.

I am deeply indebted to you, Sir, for this magnanimous act of yours, which would inspire millions like me,

'To Always Act and Act in Time'.

It does not matter to me, that your letter dated 11th November, 2015...was received by me on 23rd January, 2016...

It does not matter to me, even if you may not have read my book yet...

It does not matter to me 'if and when, I would be able to meet you in person and actually get my books autographed , as mentioned by you...

'What matters to me the Most', is the fact that

'You did reply to me!'

and that too, to some one, not even remotely known to you...

A Heartfelt Thank You, Sir... for this beautiful gift you have sent my way,

With Warm Regards,Yours affectionately,

Shubha Sagar

EXPERIENCING DIVINITY AND SERENITY BY 'DARING TO BE DIFFERENT'

Come Makar Sankranti and people, the nation over, get busy taking holy dips and flying kites...

Without doing any of this, I am soaring high like a kite,(of course, not forgetting for a moment that my string is in control of someone supremely divine and gracious.)

The reason for my happiness being that I indulged in three simple activities that have warmed my heart and made me feel really happy and blessed indeed!

The reason I chose to blog about this, is not to make a 'hue and cry'about it but, rather spread the awareness that life can become really worthwhile through 'simple acts of sharing and caring'.

On Friday morning,15th of January, I experienced the sheer joy of picking up some 'bare necessities' for  the Borivali Orphanage girls. My friends Sonal Dhar and Seema Sharma contributed equally to help me pick up a decent amount of stuff to donate, God bless both of them! My friend, Neepa Soneta ferried me to and fro to the place, in her car. The fact that her car was hit by an auto riksha also did not dampen her spirits, pray that she is rewarded with a new car soon!

Have a look:

ONE NATION, DIVERSE FESTIVALS TO CELEBRATE,

THE JOY OF CELEBRATING TOGETHER!

THE JOY OF SERVING TIL LADOOS TO THE ORPHANAGE GIRLS!

The same evening, we decided to spread more joy by distributing til ladoos to the watchmen of our building, who in return, promised to light a bonfire for us.

So, Shubha Sagar along with Neepa Soneta, Ripal Soni, Monali Shah, Suhani Shirsulla, Drisht Kakkar, Tisya Soneta, Prisha Shah and Riddhi Soni of 'Go Green Drive', joined together to celebrate Makar Sankranti in a different way and make it very special for the watchmen of our building. It was Neepa Soneta who suggested that we gift them steel glasses for tea so that they would stop drinking in the throwaway plastic ones. We presented steel glasses, cup cakes, biscuits and til ladoos to 12 watchmen of our building, Ekta Woods, Raheja Estate, Borivali-East, Mumbai.

Be part of the fun:

The girls sang and danced around the bonfire, many more kids of the building joined them in this 'merry-making'. They also distributed sweets to many other maids and passersby thus, they experienced the immense joy of

celebrating 'Makar Sankranti with a Difference'.

Followed by this joyous activity was attending the 'Sunday Ritual', conducted by the Break Through Foundation, of feeding the street side children and their families,on the 17th January near the Raghuleela Mall at Poisar, Kandivali-West, Mumbai.

This noble foundation was started by my student Meet Sangoi, who is currently studying in London. It was a pleasure to meet him recently and catch up about this charitable work, and even more so, to be a part of it.

Every Sunday the members and volunteers associated with the foundation, serve a well balanced, nutritious and hygienic meal consisting of vegetable pulao, dhokla, chutney, papad, buttermilk and banana to 50 to 60 street dwellers. It inspired me enough to promise  myself to be part of this noble work, as often as possible in the future.

Have a look:

CAN THERE BE A BETTER WAY OF CELEBRATING ANY FESTIVAL IN 'TRUE SPIRIT', THE SMILES SAY IT ALL!

REALLY PROUD TO BE PART OF THE TEAM THAT IS ENGAGED IN SUCH NOBLE AND EXEMPLARY WORK FOR THE UNDERPRIVILEGED!

So you see, there could not have been a better way of starting the year on a very auspicious and meaningful note!

These 3 activities definitely helped me and all others associated with me, to experience 'Divinity and Serenity' by 'Daring to be Different'!

This is Shubha Sagar from the  'Go Green Drive ' at Ekta Woods, Raheja Estate, Borivali-East, Mumbai, signing off for now...stay tuned for regular updates on more exciting and inspiring news in the future!

Hi, Friends!

'The Go Green Drive Team', at Ekta Woods, Raheja Estate, Borivali-East, Mumbai, is back again, with the News of yet Another Exciting Event,

"A Special and Soulful Christmas Celebration"

As I had very categorically, stated earlier:

"When a butterfly or a sapling emerges, it is not a sudden development but a slow and steady  preparation for an exciting, purposeful, life turning event!"

So, for all those who  have been wondering, what the

'Go Green Drive Team, at Ekta Woods' is up to, after

the 'Diwali Sale with A Heart and Purpose'...

Well, not basking under the glory of the past successful ventures, we all set forth to 'Recharge our batteries', for 'A Very Special and Soulful Christmas Sale!'

PLANNING, PREPARATION & EXECUTION OF

'A DIWALI SALE WITH A HEART AND PURPOSE!'

THE SHEER JOY OF MAKING DIWALI SPECIAL FOR THE GIRLS OF THE ORPHANAGE, 'UDAAN GHAR'!

Hence, not deterred by the Diwali vacation assignments or the vacation trips, Shubha Sagar along with Neepa Soneta, Sonal Dhar, Suhani Shirsulla, Drishti Kakkar, Samiha Dhar,Tisya Soneta, Prisha Shah and Riddhi Parmar, set out in the frantic planning and preparation of 'A Very Special and Soulful Christmas Sale and Celebration', with 'A Clear and Concise Goal to:

#  Make Ethnic Stuff mostly by Recycling Paper ;

#  Keeping in mind the need for 'Saving Trees and Conserving Energy';

# Thus 'Doing Our Bit for the Environment';

# Spreading Awareness about the same;

# And above all,'Raising funds' to 'Celebrate a Special Christmas with Girls of an Orphanage'

A lot more creative work was done, balancing studies, exams and several other activities, thus taking out time to pursue our goals of creating ethnic stuff by recycling paper. Then putting it up on sale to generate funds and give a special meal to the orphanage kids, thus making a difference in our own lives and that of others...

Finally the much awaited day, that is, Christmas arrived!

The two days of the Special Christmas Sale were hectic but  very fruitful as we attended our supporters who not only purchased the stuff but also blessed the team on learning that the girls had not only worked hard to make all the creative stuff but had purely done it with  'Recycling Paper'  and 'Earning money to feed orphanage kids', as their 'Prime Objective'.

The wonderful response helped us generate a decent amount of funds to be able to afford the dinner at the orphanage.

Finally the day of fulfilling our promise arrived, after much planning, coordinating and collaborating, on Friday, 8th January 2016! We all went to the orphanage in Borivali to serve them dinner and spend quality time with the girls there!

We could not have started the New Year on a better note!
