I am posting in the touch of divine after nearly 3 years...though I have continued with other blogs...was so busy penning down poems and slogging with jobs..it feels good to be back!
This one is 'an ode to all the women out there', it urges you to delve deep within your divine power and stand up for yourself !
Working Woman versus Home Maker.....And the debate goes on...
A woman is blessed with an infinite power, whether she is a homemaker, a working woman or managing both the roles.She is capable of going beyond possibilities and doing justice to whichever role she adopts giving her best to whatever a particular situation demands and keeping herself and others around her happy.
As a woman who has been working for over 25 years and has been a homemaker also for short stints ,I feel privileged to have experienced both the roles.i am sure that the thoughts that I share here,for this strongly debated topic 'which role is better,that of a working woman or a housewife",would have several women wholeheartedly agreeing.
Well first of all,I have to say that ,It is not easy to be in either of the roles and certainly not at all,doing a dual role! It requires immense strength,adjustment and balancing acts to manage both the roles.Yet over the centuries the debate has been going on about what is better for a woman,being a professional or a home maker.men and women from all walks of life have only added to this confusion through their diverse opinions.This confusion prevailing over this debatable topic has fuelled the conflict already existing in a woman' s mind.Needless to say ,the conflict and the confusion has reached a crescendo with the increasing demands of being a so called modern woman of the 21st century.
We all are aware that a woman is blessed with a divine power and immense strength to tackle all kinds of situations but that does not mean that a woman does not go through highs and lows. She goes through her share of moments when she feels a sense of loss,confusion and self doubt. In times like these it is only her divine power that comes to her rescue and helps her resurrect her self worth. I remember receiving a message once that the image of Goddess Durga possessing several arms is symbolic of the multi tasking that a woman has to do,I strongly agree to this. However challenging the situation might be, a woman is not only capable of rising to it but able to handle it with ease and poise.
As for the debate,as a matter of fact, I have seen housewives envying the smartly dressed women going to work daily without realizing that the women going to work equally envy the leisure talks and walks of these women who seem to be 'free birds' as per them.After all as they say"The grass is always green on the other side"! The working woman misses having a relaxed cup of tea in the morning after her husband and kids have left for the day and the housewife misses sharing family gossip over a cup of coffee with her colleagues at her work place.
I distinctly remember having met a friend from my university days,several years later.She was working as a senior biochemist in a reputed medical institute,she dazzled me by telling me that having a good job was fine but she missed out on the day to day household activities. On the reverse side, another friend, who had never worked and said that she would do anything to get hold of a job,wanted to quit a job she had acquired with great difficulty,one and go back to being a housewife.
So you see,each to its own,what works for one does not work for the other.There are examples of highly qualified women,even doctors and engineers who prefer sitting at home and undergraduates who become entrepreneurs or pick up jobs. Actually it is more about enjoying whatever task you have in hand.Maintaining a house beautifully could be as satisfying as completing a presentation at work and helping your child complete a school project can be as gratifying as being successful in a business venture.If one learns to make the most of the moment without drawing parallels ,any kind of work would offer the same satisfaction.
Another very important factor is to inculcate the same kind of discipline and set up a regime even as a housewife,as you would do,while working for an employer.,I have realized through my own experience that we often stretch ourselves endlessly to meet the demands of a job but do not put in the same efforts while at home. As an example,having to leave very early in the morning for my job and coming back late in the evening left me with no time,energy or inclination to go for a walk. When I left my job,I kept telling myself that I would go to the nearby national park fora walk but did not convert my intentions into actions.I continued procrastinating and developed a laid back attitude towards other house work and extra activities too and the result was a very dull feeling. Then one fine day I just got up and made a schedule for myself to keep myself occupied starting from a walk in the morning to completing all the chores to keeping some time side for my extra reading and writing activities.Believe me the result was miraculous and very satisfactory. If you can slog for your boss,you can be your own boss and get the most out of yourself too!
So you see the key to happiness lies not as much in what role you are taking up but doing full justice to that role. Allow your mind to be your boss that makes you achieve more than 100 percent from each and every task at hand. And believe me,the end result would be very fulfilling and rewarding ,leaving no room for speculation about whether you better off doing something other than what you are doing.
To sum up the whole discussion I suggest the following:
1.You and you alone can decide what role would be best for you as per your interests and abilities.☺️
2. If circumstances do not allow you to make a choice,enjoy doing what you are doing,wholeheartedly,without drawing parallels.😌
3. Let not the endless debates and discussions about which role is 'bigger and better',distract or disturb you.😨
4. If you can dance to the tunes of a boss,you can be your own boss too,not only to recognize your potential but also realize it through a well planned and executed regime.😉
5. Do not let people color your thoughts,for example,while coming back from work in the evening if somebody says 'you look so tired',just smile and say that you have had a fulfilling day.😅
6. When someone passes a remark about you being just a mere housewife,say with a beaming smile that you are proud to be one.😍
7. Do not always take people at face value,sometimes they speak out of envy or sheer frustration of their own ability to handle a particular situation,rather inspire them through the clarity of your thoughts and actions.😜
8. Whatever your role might be, give it your 100 percent and aim for quality to ensure satisfaction on task completion.😀
9. Engage yourself in an activity or hobby that you enjoy a lot,do not let lack of time,inclination or energy be an excuse,because either of the roles can be very demanding and may leave you exhausted.😓
10. Last but not the least,delve deep into the divine power within and whatever you do,enjoy it to the core...and let the debate go on....☺️😰😀😄😃😁😂😍😘
